The Iowa Valley Bicycle Club (IVBC of Marshalltown) was formed in 1974 to promote recreational bicycling and bicycle safety. From the initial mission, IVBC has been active in programs such as the bike safety rodeo program of the after school Allstars program, donating helmets to children, providing traffic control for the Oktemberfest 10 K run and the Corn Carnival Triathlon, and assisting the Adopt a Highway Program. Through donations it has also aided in the development of the Marshalltown Bike Path and the Discovery America Trail.

Pat and Valari Beurskens have been involved with the Iowa Valley Bicycle Club for about five years now.
Pat is a field engineering specialist for Alliant energy, and his wife Valari is an R.N. at the Iowa Veterans Home. Daughter, Kelsey, is a junior at Marshalltown High School, and son Conner attends 8th grade at Miller Junior High in Marshalltown.
2009 marks the third RAGBRAI in a row for Pat and Valari.
"With our son Conner's baseball schedule, we don't get to do too many weekend rides, but last summer, we took days off during the week to go on longer rides. We biked to Nevada, Iowa a few times and also rode to Bondurant and back for Valari's first century ride." says Pat, "On a Saturday morning, we biked north of Green Mountain and came back on Garwin road to Highway 14. The water from the floods was just beginning to cover the southbound lanes, but the road was not yet closed, and we didn't have time to go around and come in on Main street, so we had to ride through a couple inches of water on our tanden, while trying to avoid debris and snakes on the road! Needless to say, Valari's backside was pretty wet by the time we got to town."
Another memory was RAGBRAI 2007 on the last day, riding down the big hill into Bellevue, going over the 40 m.p.h. for the first time.
Together, they ride a Santana Sovereign SE. Also, Pat rides a Trek 5000, and Valari rides a Trek 1200.
Besides biking they spend most of their time supporting the kids activities.
